Problems: iPhone 3.0 Update and iTunes Download

E-mail Print PDF

We have been waiting for hours, but the iPhone 3.0 Update is finally here. The download in iTunes started by saying that it will only take 5 minutes, then the time started to get longer and longer, in all it took about 15 minutes. I can safely say that mine has now finished downloading and did not experience any problems.

I am surprised that my download and install went smoothly, I remember the last iPhone OS update; I had a number of issues and had to use the backup function in iTunes to get my phone running again. After downloading the update again, all was fine.

A number of our readers reported that they had nothing but trouble with iPhone OS 2.0, a number of them said that they were receiving an SSL error. Let us know how you got on today by adding a comment below.

My iPhone is now up and running with the new software, and a quick glance shows that all is fine. In the past users have reported bricked iPhone’s and iPods after installing new software, if this happens to you we would like you to share the details and give tips for other users.

Ngmoco Won't Be Making iPhone 3GS Games Anymore

I'm not upgrading to the iPhone 3GS, and thanks to AT&Ts pricing, I'm not alone. But owning an old iPhone 3G is going to hurt when iPhone-3GS-only games come out. Luckily, Ngmoco has no plans to start that trend. While yes, the new iPhone 3GS brings twice the RAM, a faster processor and better 3d imaging to the table, Ngmoco isn't going to make games that are unable to run on the regular old iPhone 3G. This is the Rolando and Star Defense developer's plan:  "We're scaling the... Read more...

White iPhone 3GS in low supply

The iPhone 3GS was a huge success for Apple to sell over three million units in the first three days after his release. It has done so well that it was rather difficult to obtain, especially in white. Fortune says that the stock of Apple Store iPhone 16GB White 3GS were very low, only 10% of the retail stores Apple has in store. The entry-level iPhone 3GS was flying shelves because it went on sale a couple of weeks ago. We are not sure if it is due to strong demand for the 16GB model, or if... Read more...

Bugs & Fixes: IPhone 3GS Signal Strength Oddities

I warn you at the outset. This is not going to be one of those Bugs & Fixes with a neatly defined set of symptoms and a iron-clad solution. This one's a bit messy. Here's the deal: Almost immediately after getting my new iPhone 3GS, I noticed that it spent more time connected to the EDGE network, rather than the faster 3G network, than did my prior iPhone 3G.   As my old 3G was still in use (it's now my wife's iPhone), I could conduct a test. Turning off Wi-Fi on both phones, I tracked... Read more...

The iPhone OS 4.0 Wishlist

We've delved into iPhone OS 3.0 and so far, we like what we've seen. But after playing with it all day, we noted a few new features that should be thrown in for the next update as well as a few existing apps that desperately need a makeover.   iPhone OS 3.0's somewhat lame, somewhat limited Notes app. Notes App Needs a Facelift The iPhone's Notes app finally syncs with your computer in iPhone OS 3.0, but it's still very bare-bones. Give us the ability to change the font and the... Read more...

Latest iPhone OS 3.1 Beta Points to Unknown Device

An update of USBConfiguration.plist file found in the latest firmware for iPhone OS 3.1 beta provides evidence that Apple is developing an unknown device. According to ArsTechnica story, the product called "iProd", was discovered in March and has since been updated as "1.1", which has led people to believe that there is indeed a stranger in the products Apple under active development for the iPhone OS to run.   When the iPhone 3.0 OS SDK beta was seeded to developers, an entry into the...
