iPhone for Life

E-mail Print PDF

I'll posture that not many of us know the anniversary of the date we purchased the majority of our mobile phones - at least not before the iPhone hit the streets. (And if I remember, I hope you remember other important anniversaries, too!) But things have changed on 29 June 2007. Lines formed, and tons of iPhone have been sold. Similar events have occurred both summers since, as the iPhone hardware was updated. And even if I have my third model of iPhone, I'm not concerned about what my next phone will be, because I own an iPhone for life.
This idea seemed quite unusual when thought crossed my mind recently. But then I saw a link on the website of Gruber in this photo on Flickr. Subsequent observations indicate clearly that they are not alone in holding my iPhone in excess of those that came before. No longer do I scour the Internet for news of the next great thing (unless it is iPhone related, of course).

iPhone for life (I am not a tattoo guy, but if I were ...) is a concept I absolutely believe in. It seems terribly shortsighted and absolute, I realize, but I have faith in Apple. The company has proved once again that you can innovate and lead the pack. With my iPhone, I have all the features in my pocket that I could never get care. The army of developers will flood the App Store with hundreds of new applications each week, which means you'll always find what I want to extend the capabilities of my iPhone. Since the competition, like Palm Pre, hits the streets, applications have become a big deal. And while marketing departments have hung their hat on 'Programs', as word of late, you're playing catch in a big way.

Beyond its iPhone, Apple has turned the act of purchase - and use - its product into something special. The drawings alone inspire awe and enthusiasm. Apple is beginning to them, also offers free fields as well as children can learn to love their products while they are impressionable (my child is placed in the Summer Camp at the local store over the next couple of weeks, and is fully powered on it). Addition of free technical support and workshops held so much more. There is a feeling that you belong to something when you have an Apple product, and this is what I think makes the sticky label, as it is today. Apple is not just a brand, is a culture.

I have seen firsthand how the iPhone has taken the iPod "Halo Effect" to the next level. Many friends have chosen to iPhone over the past 24 months. These are the smartphone loved so much that we got excited to take the plunge into a new system as well. (Some are still going for a MacBook just because it figured sync with their mobile phone easier - at least, a great excuse to jump on the bandwagon!) Once you have taken this step, almost unanimously, have asked me how long had the PC for so long, when such a terrible alternative was there waiting.

Not everyone is a gadget junky, like myself tend to be. This life tends to be a neglect of the gadgets you have, while drooling on what will hopefully come. But I've found my happiness with the iPhone. Using the iPhone is just a great experience, not necessarily perfection (blasphemous!), The mind, but it is really a joy to use. Apple had me as a customer with his life computer. But the iPhone has its mode set in a niche in my life that, for a very long time, is up for grabs. No longer - iPhone for Life, baby!

Latest iPhone OS 3.1 Beta Points to Unknown Device

An update of USBConfiguration.plist file found in the latest firmware for iPhone OS 3.1 beta provides evidence that Apple is developing an unknown device. According to ArsTechnica story, the product called "iProd", was discovered in March and has since been updated as "1.1", which has led people to believe that there is indeed a stranger in the products Apple under active development for the iPhone OS to run.   When the iPhone 3.0 OS SDK beta was seeded to developers, an entry into the... Apple iPhone 4G Patent Surfaces?

Three new Apple patents applications unearthed this week suggest a range of new features that may be included in the next generation iPhone. MacRumors reveals the most interesting patent appears to be a haptic feedback concept employing a "grid of piezoelectronic actuators" potentially producing a fully tactile touchscreen. This could mean the ability to feel virtual buttons or a click wheel and receive small vibrations from the handset. Limited haptic technology has started gaining adoption in... Read more...

The iPhone 3G S has landed

Yes, the major media figure on the Internet has an iPhone 3G S. On initial examination, I’d safely say that this if you’re planning on getting an iPhone with a new contract, go ahead. The price is right and the features are great. Everything on this phone is snappier - Maps especially - and the auto-focus and video uploads passed the wife test who said that this is what she’s been looking for from the iPhone from the beginning. Looks like someone is going to have to upgrade someone.... Read more...
