It seems like every other month or so we are reporting a new point of reference for the Apple App Store. First it was 500 million downloads, and a billion. Well now the popular App Store has reached 1.5 million downloads. E 'was only three months ago that the App Store hit the one billion download mark, at this rate it seems that hit two billion downloads in another three months. Even with the controversy over Apple does not approve a number of applications it seems that the App Store is a... Read more...
iPhone 3G S buyers are still experiencing delays activating their new smartphones, but Apple apparently wants to make it up to them. Apple began notifying affected customers via e-mail on Sunday that they may experience additional delays for another two days due to "system issues" and "high activation volumes," according to readers in various blogs who claim to have received the e-mail. The problems began immediately after the new iPhone's launch Friday. As a way of apology for the... Read more...

Being a tester of browsers who's recently purchased an iPhone 3GS, I wondered how the device's browser performed on the most commonly used benchmark, SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark. I had a hunch that the iPhone's version of Safari, which performs snappily on the desktop compared with Internet Explorer, would be stiff competition for today's Windows XP-based netbooks. Little did I suspect the degree of whoopass the 3GS would unload on that inexpensive little Atom-based portable. My iPhone 3GS,... Read more...
The iPhone 3GS was a huge success for Apple to sell over three million units in the first three days after his release. It has done so well that it was rather difficult to obtain, especially in white. Fortune says that the stock of Apple Store iPhone 16GB White 3GS were very low, only 10% of the retail stores Apple has in store. The entry-level iPhone 3GS was flying shelves because it went on sale a couple of weeks ago. We are not sure if it is due to strong demand for the 16GB model, or if... Read more...
I'll posture that not many of us know the anniversary of the date we purchased the majority of our mobile phones - at least not before the iPhone hit the streets. (And if I remember, I hope you remember other important anniversaries, too!) But things have changed on 29 June 2007. Lines formed, and tons of iPhone have been sold. Similar events have occurred both summers since, as the iPhone hardware was updated. And even if I have my third model of iPhone, I'm not concerned about what my next... Read more...
I broke my iPhone yesterday. I dropped it facedown onto concrete. The glass screen decided to shatter, turning fractal in a very bad way. The phone itself works, but the screen is completely hosed. Cost: 200 for Apple to swap it out. Instead, my significant other is mailing me her old first generation iPhone. I’ll get by. Take a look at my phone, though, before you read on. As children are an effective contraceptive via fear, let that image force you to clutch your iPhone just a bit harder.... Read more...
Apple Stores will now open an hour earlier than planned on Friday when the iPhone 3G S goes on sale. Doors will now open at 7 a.m. in all time zones instead of 8 a.m. as the company had previously stated. The move makes sense since AT&T stores are opening at 7 a.m. Friday, though only for customers who pre-ordered an iPhone. AT&T's doors will open to sell the phones at 9 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. As usual, we'll be following iPhone sales in various time zones. Will Apple ... Read more...
I'm not upgrading to the iPhone 3GS, and thanks to AT&Ts pricing, I'm not alone. But owning an old iPhone 3G is going to hurt when iPhone-3GS-only games come out. Luckily, Ngmoco has no plans to start that trend. While yes, the new iPhone 3GS brings twice the RAM, a faster processor and better 3d imaging to the table, Ngmoco isn't going to make games that are unable to run on the regular old iPhone 3G. This is the Rolando and Star Defense developer's plan: "We're scaling the... Read more...
Apple's customers have wasted no time scooping up its latest smartphone and operating system update. More than 1 million iPhone 3G S smartphones have sold in the three days since the new model hit the stores Friday, Apple announced Monday. In addition, 6 million people have downloaded the new iPhone OS 3.0 update in the five days since its release. The sales figure even prompted Apple CEO Steve Jobs to make his first public comment since going on medical leave early this year. "Customers... Read more...
