Telus, Bell to get the iPhone in Canada

E-mail Print PDF

Many Canadians are encouraging as Telus and Bell announced plans Tuesday to begin selling Apple's popular iPhone, ending the reign of Rogers as the exclusive iPhone carrier in Canada. After completing an upgrade of 1 billion U.S. dollars so its access network can support high-speed packet (HSPA) that uses the iPhone, both Bell and Telus will begin offering the iPhone in November, the companies said in statements separated.

Neither company would provide more details on pricing or an exact date for the device in Canada. Both companies will offer the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, according to the statements.

As the Financial Post out until the network upgrade was completed, Bell and Telus CDMA networks ran, which is not compatible with the iPhone.

Rogers had a difficult start, adding the 3G iPhone to its list last year. The company drew the wrath of users when they refused to offer an unlimited data plan like those available in the U.S. AT & T

Rogers relented and offered users (almost) unlimited plan a month later but by then it was too late. Users around the country began to organize petitions and websites such as RuinediPhone.com to protest against the company.

iPhone 3GS's Browser 15 Times Faster than Netbook's

Being a tester of browsers who's recently purchased an iPhone 3GS, I wondered how the device's browser performed on the most commonly used benchmark, SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark. I had a hunch that the iPhone's version of Safari, which performs snappily on the desktop compared with Internet Explorer, would be stiff competition for today's Windows XP-based netbooks. Little did I suspect the degree of whoopass the 3GS would unload on that inexpensive little Atom-based portable. My iPhone 3GS,... Read more...
