Another cool iPhone Patent submission - “ID App” for identifying objects in a user’s surroundings

E-mail Print PDF
If this patent goes through, Apple could have an app called "App ID" for iPhone that allows users to select RFID, the Chamber of entry or infrared to identify objects in their surroundings. Shared by AppleInsider, this patent will revolutionize the way iPhone works.

App to identify objects:
One of the most interesting concerns the filing of a new identification question apparently being developed by Apple that would allow the identification of objects in a user environment so that their iPhone can submit additional information about items identified.

For example, today's iPhone is able to take a picture of art in a museum, but not able to provide you with detailed information on the piece of art, such as the name of the painter or other related information. Similarly, iPhone can take pictures of structural elements, such as bridges and buildings, but not identify them.

Apple solution requires a new "App ID", which automatically determines users' current environment and allow them to select from a list of detection technology, such as a RFID reader, a camera or a capture device infrared images. Based on the selected mode, the iPhone could then adjust the parameters used for searching a database of identification at a distance, or collection of databases.

"For example, if the user chooses to identify an object in a 'MUSEUM' mode, the portable electronic device can search the database of identification for items that are commonly found in a museum," says Apple. "In some Embodiments, the portable electronic device can determine the location of users to help identify an object. For example, if the user is determined to be in Las Vegas and the portable electronic device is set to a 'RESTAURANT' mode, the device may limit the search for identification data for restaurants in Las Vegas. SoundAMP turns an iPhone into a hearing aid

An iPhone can take the place of all kinds of gear--an air mouse, a metronome, a golfer's GPS, and so on. Now, thanks to SoundAMP, it can fill in for a hearing aid as well. All you do is fire up SoundAMP and plug in a pair of earphones. (iPod Touch users will need one with an inline microphone.) Then just raise or lower the oversize slider until... Read more...

Vlingo adds voice control to older iPhones

Pity the poor iPhone 3G owner who now has to grapple with reality; yes, what was until Friday the world's coolest smartphone is now simply a piece of yesterday's tech, as current as a punchcard and as enduring as a wax cylinder recording on a hot afternoon. Some of our readers have apparently been so dazzled by Apple's enthusiastic promotion of... Read more...

Layers ($4.99)

If you are a budding artist iPhone Livelli then the application could be for you. This is about a finger painting, a little 'like a brush, the iPhone app used to paint the cover of a recent edition of The New Yorker.  As the name suggests, however, the characteristic of this application are separate layers within each image, which you can draw on. Five separate layers means you can add more depth to your paintings before - and this is the best bit - exporting as a JPG, or PSD layers. It... Read more...
