Comcast has just jumped on the bandwagon with iPhone "Comcast Mobile App" - now available for free download from the iTunes App Store.
The program gives subscribers access to Comcast Digital Voice features like voice mail, contact management (you can sync your iPhone contacts with Comcast), and call forwarding from your home phone to your iPhone. You also have access to your Comcast e-mail with an e-mail and voicemail messages under a single "SmartZone" tab.
As for the TV functions, there is a built-in TV guide feature that allows some favorite shows and e-mail to friends. It works well, but the lack of a remote control functionality to the TiVo DVR is a painful omission - for Comcast, in general, and for this app. It would be great to cruise the TV guide and click on a "record this show" waiting for you to do it when you get home. I suppose one can not totally blame the application for not having given Comcast does not offer that feature in any shape to start.
The OnDemand feature, too, would be terrible if we could stream full OnDemand programs. Instead, you have access to trailers for movies that are available
on your home via cable. We would have serious problems with the bandwidth OnDemand full streaming movies and TV shows, but the functionality could be implemented through a single Wi-Fi on the "maybe.
And, of course, that does not mean that the full features such as streaming and remote DVR programming are not coming one day. At the moment, Comcast's iPhone is a good question, offering a solid effort for non-iPhone owners who subscribe to and use Comcast's voice, internet and cable services.
