PhoneFace gives speed-dial the Cover Flow treatment

E-mail Print PDF

Like Cover Flow for contacts, PhoneFace lets you create a custom favorites list comprised entirely of photos (and/or avatars). In other words, this is a visual alternative to your iPhone bookmarks list. And a terrifying one at that.

To get started, you tap the Plus icon, then choose a contact from the phonebook. If there is already an associated picture, you can click with the iPhone camera, choose a photo from your library, choose an avatar from PhoneFace collection, or even kill his Twitter profile picture (if it is someone you've already followed).

After adding a few contacts, you can browse them how to browse album covers in Cover Flow.

When you select a photo, you'll see a menu that lets you call one of the numbers that the contact, send a text message, or compose an e-mail.

The idea, of course, is that it is easier to find a contact with that face by drilling through a text-based list. It certainly is, and that is why I wish that you could plug the iPhone app icon bookmarks directly to PhoneFace. Having to hunt for the icon kills some 'convenience.

Of course, you can always add to your "dock" icons at the bottom of the screen. My only real complaint with the application is its odd assortment of avatars. A silhouetted cowboy? An astronaut carrying a briefcase? Uh, whatever.

However, if you're a fan of Cover Flow, you'll love PhoneFace. E'99 cents.

Not a fan of Cover Flow? So what is your favorite speed-dial app for iPhone? PhoneFace Photo Speed Dial

Shows you 4 gorgeous women on each page with the Next and Back buttons, when you view one picture, you can then swipe left or right to go back or forward. Daily updates to the pictures... We had a good look at many of the stars looking applications available for Mac and iPhone, and I thought it would be fun to do the "next step", an application for the iPhone that is going on satellites and the International Space Station. There are plenty of websites providing this information, but having it in an application is even more enjoyable.    ... Read more...

Pity the poor iPhone 3G owner who now has to grapple with reality; yes, what was until Friday the world's coolest smartphone is now simply a piece of yesterday's tech, as current as a punchcard and as enduring as a wax cylinder recording on a hot afternoon. iPhone Sonar Ruler App pulls off a neat trick (Video)

Here is a cool way to design an application: the new ruler Sonar application  using the speaker of the iPhone to send a short and then click measure the time it takes for sound to bounce off the surface. Then tells you the distance. How is that the flexibility of the phone? It is perfectly true, however.   It works best on large flat surfaces that are perpendicular to the phone, which will provide accurate measurements within an inch. It will not work on smaller objects, however, and... Read more...
