As summer draws to a close for much of the northern hemisphere, try to go out for some (hopefully) clear skies and a bit of stargazing.
We had a good look at many of the stars looking applications available for Mac and iPhone, and I thought it would be fun to do the "next step", an application for the iPhone that is going on satellites and the International Space Station. There are plenty of websites providing this information, but having it in an application is even more enjoyable.

If you click one, details on when it appears, when it falls on the Earth's shadow, and in which direction to look. In addition, you get little sky maps show that the object will be in a graphical format.
It was partly cloudy here in Arizona the night before, but I find the International Space Station as it made about the appearance of a 1 minute in the southern sky before he went behind a cloud bank.

The charts are useful, but the footprints of the satellites in the sky sometimes is subtle in the small iPhone screen. Although I had my GPS on the radio, every time the application was used that option. It retains the last location, but I think that should only take the information and not change my settings.
There are similar applications available for the iPhone, some more expensive, while others are free, but lacks some features that you satellite visibility. I think this application has a nice combination for the money.
If all you want is to pass information to the International Space Station, the developer has an application in U.S. $ 1.99 [iTunes App] that skips all data from other satellites.
I think the satellites in the game is fun on a clear night, pleasant, so here's a new weekend activity you can enjoy.
