12seconds.tv, a video messaging service micro referred to by some as "Twitter for video," is the same format as short private video messaging application for the iPhone in second place, 12mail
.
The basic point of the application, published this week, is that you can record a video, up to 12 seconds, and send it to one of your friends. His friend then receives a notification of placement and can see it.
Unfortunately, in order to take advantage of the video recording of this application, you must have an iPhone 3GS. Those with the original iPhone 3G or can take a picture and a record 12 seconds of audio as an alternative. The application does not require an account of 12 seconds, but it lets you link to Twitter or Facebook. Then, pull down his contacts from either service and you can video message to their heart's content.
12mail
is a great concept as a private video messaging application, but seems to have missed the mark when Facebook Connect application. When you send a video message to one of your Twitter contacts, shown as a direct message on Twitter and as a private message in the application for the iPhone. But when the message from a contact on Facebook, that they put on public Facebook wall person and shown in the application for the iPhone. The result of sending a video message in these two scenarios is very different. 12mail and would alert a user on Facebook by sending a message Inbox. As it stands, the Facebook integration is not working as expected to do so.
Although some of these problems of functionality (which can be worked out), I like the idea of private video messaging or "video voicemail. He has lots of potential uses and opens a whole new way to communicate.
