MailTones brings ringtones to iPhone e-mail

E-mail Print PDF

Already have set individual ringtones for your boss, spouse, and significant others. MailTones MailTones takes the same concept of e-mail, play custom sounds when you receive messages from specific senders special.Using $ 2.99 app requires two things: that the iPhone is configured for push e-mail (to automatically find, no manual) and your server has mail forwarding option copies of new messages to another address.

Gmail, for example, makes this a snap, like MobileMe. For other services and servers and will have to find out if forwarding is an option. If not, this is not the application for you.

With this step completed, however, all that remains is to configure MailTones' alerts, which offer three options.

Works as Friend Matching ring tones based on: You get an alert to receive mail from a specific person. E (However, you can not enter someone's email address, you have to pick someone already in your address book. Complaint Minor.)

Case Matching sounds an alarm when the subject line contains one or more keywords. And domain that matches the objectives of e-mail from specific domains (for example, the office).

For each match set, you can choose from 25 shades available, ranging from simple and short, "dingtones" (my word) to noisy bells, horns of the vessel, and Fire sirens.

Suffice it to say, most people get far more email than they do phone calls, and is easy to experience the overload warning. Therefore, you probably want to set the tone for new mail "Ignore" that is not interrupted every 10 seconds.

At the same time, select the Display alerts, providing a text message-like pop-up (with the name of the sender and subject), along with the audio alert. In this way you will know if the message is important enough to justify a full-on visit to Mail.

MailTones is an idea whose time has come. If you're tired of making the iPhone every five minutes to see if the new message is something important, you now have an alternative audio signal. In fact, for anyone overwhelmed by e-mail, MailTones is $ 2.99 MailTones well spent.
