Show Battery Percentages on iPhone 3GS

E-mail Print PDF
Pick up one of those new-fangled iPhones over the weekend? You might want to activate one of the most helpful features you can have on the "Slide to Unlock" screen: an actual percentage indicator for your battery, rather than a somewhat relative cannister filled with green power. To enable it, head to Settings, General, and then Usage to toggle "Battery Percentage" to On. For whatever reasons, this only works with the new hardware handsets, not on software upgrades of "older" iPhones, but it's handy little tweak.

Master Your iPhone's Settings

The first step of tuning your iPhone is knowing what all the dials do.  The iPhone has many features, and has many options for each of those features. Some options are self-explanatory or even already familiar, but some can use a little introduction. You can see the iPhone's Settings screen in Figure 1-1. Tap the Settings icon on the iPhone's home screen to get to it.  Figure 1-1The Settings screen Airplane Mode The ON/OFF button at the very top of the Settings screen ... Read more...

Replace your iPhone 3G battery for $6

It's a sad fact of life: iPhone batteries wear out. Most users learn this about 18 months after they buy one, when the phone can barely last a day without running out of juice. Sadder still: With iPhones sealed up tighter than an astronaut's flight suit, there's no easy way to replace a worn-out battery. But there is a way. In fact, if your iPhone is out of warranty anyway (and at 18 months it undoubtedly is, unless you extended it) and you're reasonably handy with small tools, you can swap in... Read more...

Get the most out of your iPhone batteryGet the most out of your iPhone battery

A number of complaints regarding the iPhone 3GS' battery have surfaced on Apple's discussion board since the handset's June 19 launch. Given Apple's promises of a faster and longer lasting iPhone, it's understandable that 3GS users, particularly those who have made the jump from the previous models, have higher expectations. Preliminary battery testing on our iPhone 3GS review model showed positive results, but we won't know the whole story until CNET Labs finishes its tests. Until that time, I... Read more...

Rotation Inhibitor: SBSettings Toggle Allows you to Disable Accelerometer

Rotation Inhibitor: SBSettings Toggle Allows you to Disable Accelerometer Though the accelerometer is one of the coolest features of the iPhone, I find it annoying everytime I move around in bed while reading on the iPhone, as the screen keeps rotating. I finally got fed up the other day and had to figure out a way to disable the accelerometer/screen rotation.   Luckily, I stumbled upon a SBSettings Toggle aptly called Rotation Inhibitor which allows you to disable the... Access Hidden Options in Google Mobile App for iPhone

I really love the new Google Mobile App. It has an amazing voice function, and it’s not a bad looking App. Google, however, has a few tricks up their sleeves in regards to the App. They’re going to reveal more of them during Macworld 2009, but today they’ve unveiled an “easter egg” in the App that allows you to customize a few additional settings including Theme Color, Sounds, and you can turn on two options including Live Waveform and Open Links in App.   To access them you... Set up Hotmail on the iPhone via Gmail

I know a few people who have had Hotmail address for a long time and don’t want to change. They also have bought iPhones and now have no way to use the built-in client on the iPhone to read mail. This solutions lets them read Hotmail on their iPhone. (Actually, the same setup can apply for Apple Mail, too.) One catch here is that your Hotmail account must support Forwarding. You can see it is does under the Hotmail Options. Basically these instructions help you set up forwarding in Hotmail so... Read more...

Selling your iPhone 3G: Cha-ching!

Apple and AT&T aren't the only ones who can make a little money off selling iPhones. You can, too. Apparently, there's still a fairly robust resale market for the iPhone 3G -- even after Apple dropped it's price by a $100 a few weeks back. Just check out eBay: you'll see prices all over the map -- yet pretty generous -- for used 3G phones. Some are even making a profit on selling their used iPhones.   Mind you, Apple cut the price of the 3G version to $99 for the 8GB model, while the... Read more...
